Ms. Braxton is finally (and officially) back! After many leaked songs, a proper first single saw the light yesterday (no pun intended). The track sounds like a Ryan Tedder track (it could’ve easily been a Leona Lewis’ single). Her voice is stronger than the hard-hitting drums. This is definitely one of the best comeback singles this year (it and Whitney’s Million Dollar Bill).

Artist: Whitney Houston
Album: I Look To You
Release date: August 28
After a 7-year hiatus, Whitney Houston is back with I Look To You. I will try and make this review focus more on the music than on the person, even tough it’s hard. But, we all know the story from the debut to the breakdown and break-up.

No, Girls Aloud aren’t breaking up, they’re still very intact. But, the sexiest of the sexiest is set to unleash her solo single this week. “Fight For This Love” is the title. The song has been described as the ani-Xenomania (Girls Aloud’s producers) by Popjustice, There are no words out about the producers, it has all been very hush hush. Cheryl is yet to talk about this project herself!
The single will be played during Radio 1’s Chris Moyles Breakfast show around 8AM GMT.
Cheryl’s debut album “Three Words” is set for an Oct. 2nd release.

Less than a year after winning the fifth series of the hit UK show The X Factor, Alexandra Burke is back on the scene with a blazing new tune. I will not talk much about the song, but all you need to know is that the song is a hard hitting uptempo number that features A LOT of sirens (sometimes annoying), and a clap along breakdown towards the end. Is it good though? Yes. Is it that good? No.

The one and only, Mrs Knowles is this year’s recipient of Billboard’s Woman Of The Year Award. Here’s an excerption:
“Billboard announced today (Aug. 25) that Beyoncé will be accepting its Woman Of The Year Award at the 2009 Billboard Women In Music Event, taking place on Oct. 2 in New York City.
The honor, given to a female recording artist that has inspired the music business with her success, leadership and new ideas, will be awarded to the singer for her accomplishments over the past 12 months.
In the last year, Beyoncé kicked off her world tour “I Am…” in support of her third solo album “I Am…Sasha Fierce,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in November and features the hit singles “If I Were A Boy,” “Single Ladies,” “Halo,” “Ego” and “Sweet Dreams.”
“Beyoncé is multi-platinum artist and a multi-talented woman who clearly embodies the qualities of excellence and achievement that the Billboard Woman Of The Year Award was created to honor,” said Bill Werde, Billboard’s Editorial Director, about Beyoncé, who is the only performer in the 51-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 to top the chart for 10 weeks or more with a group and as a solo artist. “She has not only influenced pop culture with her hit songs and signature dance moves, but has inspired women everywhere with her unique style, business savvy and dedication to charitable causes.”
The Billboard Women in Music Event celebrates the most powerful and talented women in the music business and is also held in conjunction with the Women In Music Power Players List issue, which recognizes the top female music executives who are leading the industry with their artistic and business vision.”

Mica Paris, a name that has been circulating for a long while (22 years to be exact), her name has always come up whenever someone discusses the UK soul scene. I listened to many of her albums trying to understand what the fuss was all about, there were some few hits here and there, but I was still not fully drawn to her music, her voice however has always been exceptional. “The Hardest Thing” came out, and I had to listen to it and see how it fairs, to my surprise it blew me away. Paris channels her inner Chaka Khan on this retro-soul scorcher. The song has a sing-along chorus that’s bound to get stuck in your head for some time. After hearing this song I can honestly say that my appreciation for this UK gem has been fully actualized. Her latest album, the aptly titled Born Again sees her working with hit-maker Brian Rawling as well as having writing credits by UK crooner James Morrison.
